PHARMACY CHECK / FOLLOW THE LABEL

Find the pharmacy behind the package

The care website and the pharmacy that fills the prescription may be different businesses. The pharmacy name is the one this check needs.

A quick California check

  1. Get the exact name

Ask which pharmacy would make or send the medicine before paying.

  2. Search the state record

California’s pharmacy board offers a free lookup for pharmacies, pharmacists, and places licensed to make medicines to order in germ-free (sterile) conditions.

  3. Open any past discipline

In the search results, a column headed “Actions” shows “Yes” when the record includes past discipline. Open the record to read it.

  4. Match the label

The pharmacy name printed on the medicine’s label needs to match the business in the record.

When the pharmacy is outside California

As of September 2026, shipping a prescription drug into California from a pharmacy in another state requires a California nonresident pharmacy licence.

Since July 1, 2026, the pharmacist in charge at that pharmacy also needs a California licence.

California requires that pharmacy to put a toll-free number on each container; the line must reach a pharmacist with access to the patient's records.

MYTH / TAP TO CHECK

Registration with the federal drug agency settles the pharmacy check.

THE FACT

It does not. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) registration is not product approval and does not replace the state licence search.
